Lubaina Himid, Turner Prize 2017

Born in 1954 in Zanzibar, Tanzania, Lubaina Himid is the oldest artist to receive the Turner Prize. See more details here. The Daily Telegraph described her as "the under-appreciated hero of black British art". Himid emerged in the 1980s as one of the most prominent exponents of the British black arts movement. She teaches Contemporary Art at the University of Central Lancashire.
